'She Dances on Jackson' by Vanessa Winship:

She Dances on Jackson is the result of Vanessa Winship's road trip through America, Her Photographs captures America as a whole by including photographs of scenery, landscapes and people. The Book has a feeling that she actually got out of the car and interacted with what she photographed, often road trip photo books feel as if the person didn't ever get out of the car so it is a nice counterpoint to other books of the same style. This photo book captures the atmosphere of America at the time; every picture has a story and allows us to think what happened to the American dream, the book reflects on Americas uncertainty and struggle. it is a very moving book with a simple conservative layout which really compliments the photographs and tone of the book.



'Beyond the forest' by Clare Richardson:

This is an extremely simplistic book in all aspects, it gives a real sense of quiet and serenity. the book shows a lot of countryside shots of farms and the men working the land, its a collection of simple yet beautiful images which are presented very well in the book




'The Last Days of Shishmaref' by Dana Lixenberg:

This is a Book which is about a little town in Alaska which is slowly being washed away into the sea due to global warming, it is essentially the story of the people who lives there and their lives. this is a extremely interesting book because its layout, photos are intersected with sections of green pages that include a map of Alaska and a lot of information and background on the town, which helps explain the situation and offer some insight. this use of different green pages throughout the book is interesting as it breaks up the monotony of the same pages.

My name is Sinead McDonnell, I'm currently living in Dublin and attending Dublin Business School, For my class understanding the image, I have chosen to do my photography Project on water, I chose water because I wanted something that would be doable, and yet allow my work to be varied and appealing. Ireland is one of the wettest places in the world and is well known for its rich landscape, a key aspect of this landscape is water, not only is Ireland surrounded by water, but the landscape itself is saturated in both water features and rain, therefor i propose focusing my project on water. I intend to Highlight the beauty and power something as simple as water has on the Irish landscape and also how water plays a key part in the landscape and life in Ireland.
My main target area will be Dublin, however i intend to also include lakes and other water features form nearby county's such as Wicklow and Westmeath considering I frequently travel to those areas. My plan is to go around Dublin (Wicklow and Westmeath) with the camera on my phone and photograph features such as lakes, rivers, waterfalls, weirs, beaches, puddles and even something as simple as Dublin in the rain. I intend to use a variety of shots, ranging from wide landscape shots to close-up detailed shots. I'm hoping to predominantly take these photographs during the day to allow for an elegant natural light which I feel will add to the natural atmosphere I want to capture in my photographs.
Water can create such a variety of atmospheres and tones; rain can often be quite harsh and dull while beach shots are often serene and tranquil, I hope to show these contrasts in my project. living in Dublin I am surrounded by different types of water daily, be that the beaches on the coast or simply passing the Liffey on the bus each morning, this means my project will be very do-able as it will be very accessible and therefor very relatable to my audience. My project will show a softer side to Ireland, showing its not all crowded and packed with buildings, particularly in relation to the Dublin aspect of the project.
I hope to eventually gather enough photographs to crate a photo book, which will be aimed at anyone with an interest in naturalistic photographs, Ireland's landscape, or even just water or water features in general. I hope for the photo book to serve as an insight into the beauty of Ireland's landscape in regards to water, and offer a glimpse at the hundreds of lakes and rivers running through Ireland.
The parameters of my projects are from now until March 2014, I want to give as wide a time frame as possible to allow for variety and contrast in my photographs. The photo book will be exhibited in an exhibition at Film Base in temple bar during April 2014, giving me plenty of time to make any necessary edits to the photographs. the photographs will be taken with the camera on my phone, so I will always have access to it, giving me the freedom to take photographs daily until that point.
